After the disaster inflicted upon Japan, Mieko was inspired to create “Pray for Japan”- Holding hands and moving forward. As a Japanese-American, the disaster really hit home for Mieko. She was touched by how quickly the world responded to the disaster through prayer and relief.
Mieko is holding a silent auction for the piece (pictured below) on May 6th at 8 p.m. at the Iao Theater during the theatrical production of “My Mama Monologues,” where Mieko plans to speak about her Japanese mother. 20 percent of the proceeds from the silent auction will be donated to Japan Mother’s Association, a non profit organization similar to the Red Cross, that supports the needs of parents, caregivers, babies, children, and students who survived the earthquake in Japan. Mieko will sell smaller 8x12s printed on metallic paper for $20 outside the theater. Please contact Mieko at msw@maui.net for more information.
