Iao valley is one of my favorite locations to lead photography workshops on Maui.  defending in to the valley is like going to another time and place.   Perhaps that is why movie makes used the Valley in the opening sequence to the move Jurassic Park.  I don’t hike to far into the valley but rather walk along the stream looking for the right light and topography.   With the stream flow changing daily, and the clouds floating in and out every few minutes, there is always a way to make a beautiful image.  It can take some time in order for the clouds to float into position but when they do they act as a giant diffusor.   Surfers wait for waves.  Photographers wait for light……..

I used a 10 stop ND filter and selected a 15 second exposure at F22, in order to get the swirling waves with wisps of white.  Its kind of like natures capachino.
