While walking through the trials along the beach or forrest it is a good idea to look around. You never know when you will find a great subject for a portrait. I have trained myself to sense movement, and when the gecko jumped onto this leaf I saw it from the corner of my eye. Before walking close I metered my light, and made sure my camera settings were what I wanted then slowly moved in. I did not look at the gecko and concentrated on getting into a good position to make a photograph. I did not have a tripod set up and made sure my shutter speed was fast enough to freeze the gecko should he move. I got as close as I felt the gecko would tolerate and brought my camera up and created a few images before the gecko jumped to a new leaf, then sauntered up a branch and disappeared.
