Underwater Photographers Dream Trip

by Douglas Hoffman on April 3, 2022

I am excited to announce a special week of scuba diving in the Vatu I Ra Passage, of Fiji, taking place May 19-26th, 2024. Also known as the Bligh Water, this area is famous for colorful soft coral, tropical fish, and current. The first time I dived in these waters was with the Naia live-aboard. Over the charter the boat visited different areas. The diving in each place was world class and prompted me to return.

Since then, I have gone on the Naia, and Fiji Siren Live-aboards a few times. On each charter, the boat went to epic dive locations that everyone enjoyed. As I gained more experience in Fiji, I realized the highlight of each trip for me, was always the dive sites in the Bligh Water.

This passage lies between Fijis two largest islands and huge amounts of water are funneled through with every changing tide. Deep upwellings provide a steady amount of nutrients that feeds the food chain. Thus the abundance of soft coral, rich bio-diversity, and colorful fish. I started to dream about how great it would be to spend an entire week diving in that area.

Thanks to the team at VoliVoli Resort, I am so happy to announce a Bligh Water Adventure May 19-26th, 2024. Like minded divers and underwater photographers are welcome to join the fun but must be comfortable diving in current.

Having recently stayed at the resort I got to know the dive guides and captains. I have to say each one has been well trained. But, what impressed me the most is that they all loved what they do and genuinly enjoy sharing the beauty of Fiji with other divers.

This VoliVoli special package includes 15 boat dives over six days with Ra Divers, unlimited shore diving, Nitrox, 7 nights accommodation, all meals, and round trip airport transportation. The Ocean View room costs $3,500 and the Deluxe Ocean room view room costs $3,875 based on double occupancy. Those interested a higher level of accommodation can check the resort options. They have a private Villa with a pool that is very luxurious. Single occupancy is available. Contact resort for details.

Getting to Fiji is easy. From where ever you live, fly to LA or San Francisco and then connect to a direct, 11 hour flight to Nadi Fiji. Once through customs, divers will be met and taken to the resort which is about a 2.5-3 hour drive.

Fiji to Tonga Liveaboard Dive Trip

I suggest getting some local currency at the airport and making a stop at a grocery store along the way for any snacks, beverages, or things you may want. All the rooms have small fridges.

Besides five star accommodations and meals, the resort has a spa for those that want a massage. For those that prefer liquid relaxation there are two bars to hang out at. Just recently, construction was completed a conference center and camera room, making this the perfect location to conduct a class.

For those interested in photography, I am offering a workshop. The fee is $375 per photographer. Participation is not required to join this adventure. The only prerequisite for this trip is a passion for diving and desire to be surrounded by like minded people.

Those that sign up for the workshop should plan on doing a shore dive and attending a lecture the day we arrive. Over the week I will cover the following topics macro, wide angle, strobe power, bracketing, positioning, and composition. Those that are not participating can enjoy non diving time at the pool, take out a SUP board, kayak, or just relax in the hammocks in front of the dive center.
